Applications are invited for nomination as Research assistant professor in artificial intelligence and construction robotics at the Department of Real Estate and Construction (Ref. 515742), commencing September 1, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position will be on a two-year fixed-term contract.
The Department of Real Estate and Construction (REC) has a world-class reputation for research and teaching in real estate and construction management. It operates long-established, highly successful and competitive professional training programs with alumni serving in leadership positions in both the public and private sectors. Its academic staff have a wide range of expertise, covering virtually all aspects of construction, urban planning, real estate and conservation, with a growing interest in digital technologies and data analytics. As part of the Faculty of Architecture, REC contributes to the world ranking of 14e under the QS University Subject Rankings 2021 in Built Environment. Its research quality is ranked 1st in the Built Environment panel according to the Hong Kong Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2020. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in building engineering, construction, computer science or related fields, with expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) and construction robotics. Interdisciplinary training in construction informatics and robotics, including but not limited to robot positioning and navigation, AI-driven construction waste sorting, computer vision, unmanned aerial vehicles pilot, Building Information Modeling, Digital Twin and Augmented Reality, is required. Applicants should have relevant post-doctoral experience with a proven ability to publish/disseminate research results in top journals/conferences. They must also have the ability to work independently and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, the ability to collaborate with external parties including academics and industry practitioners, and excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese.
The appointee will conduct research focused on the development of artificial intelligence and robotics technologies to improve the productivity of construction projects. He/She will have to develop his/her research within the framework of [email protected], an urban big data as well as a research hub hosted on the 7e floor of the University’s Knowles Building. It houses over HK$40 million in research grants related to BIM, blockchain, construction informatics, construction logistics and supply chain management, as well as management of the urban environment based on big data. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At the current rate, payroll tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The fixed-term appointment will result in a termination gratuity and a contribution from the University to a pension scheme, totaling up to 15% of base salary.
