Bringing together blockchain, AI and privacy-preserving computing is version 2.0 of this network’s white paper


Artificial intelligence (AI) is quickly proving how it can change the landscape of today’s society. With more data, more possibilities to turn data analysis into a method of strategic decision-making and unlock new user experiences.

While there are many applications of AI, from knowledge reasoning to gaming and even machine learning, new vulnerabilities are becoming apparent with private and sensitive information. Many global tech giants in the United States and China have accumulated massive amounts of data through existing internet services in the development of AI. However, the more “intelligent” the AI, the more personal the information to be acquired, managed and studied, which raises the question of the ethics behind the protection of privacy.

As a result, many people are already skeptical when sharing personal and business data due to current concerns about the misuse of information. On the other hand, organizations that leverage AI cannot access the large amounts of data and training models they need.

Fortunately, blockchain and privacy-preserving compute enable the privacy and security controls necessary for compliance and make it easier to share and exchange data. Applied correctly, they can also make it easier to understand, track, and audit AI.

To bring this concept of advanced AI to life, PlatON strives to create a decentralized artificial intelligence (AI) network and global brain that will effectively lead to the democratization of AI for safe artificial general intelligence. The network was initiated by the LatticeX Foundation and is based on a next-generation Internet infrastructure protocol that dramatically reduces the size of proofs while speeding up proof generation and verification.

The team has since released the latest version of their whitepaper (2.0), which, for those familiar with the project, includes several updates to the sections regarding their privacy-preserving computation.

Make changes emerge

Currently, existing public channels are not suited to the needs of privacy-preserving AI. Therefore, PlatON needed to implement a Later1 base protocol deeply tailored to AI that preserves privacy. The P2P base protocol is used for the discovery and connection of nodes through the RELOAD protocol.

Additionally, PlatON supports WASM and EVM virtual machines, each containing privacy preservation algorithms that allow developers to protect the privacy of a user’s data as part of the contract. The algorithms also help ensure a standard for token privacy contracts through destruction, interactions, and typing, further ensuring user anonymity.

Version 2.0 of the PlatON White Paper also introduces the Metis Privacy-Preserving Compute Network, which combines algorithms, computing power, and data needed for decentralized computing to provide secure, privacy-preserving computing. Metis supports two types of confidentiality-preserving protocols: Secure Multiparty Computing and Secure Outsourcing Computing.

Moirae, the decentralized AI platform, must also be known for providing a one-stop-shop AI development platform with comprehensive modeling processes to help manage AI workflows. This platform also serves as a marketplace for developers to view training datasets and interact with other models and paid users. A developer can also deploy a trained model on a single network node or on multiple network nodes that make predictions with secure computer protocols.

Finally, version 2.0 of the white paper discusses the capabilities of a service node, Horae. With Horae, self-organized group intelligence is used to connect the virtual world to the real world, further connecting humans, IoT devices, and other external computing systems. Although agents act autonomously, their interaction can help in the pursuit of more complex goals.

Together, the updates to the PlatON white paper demonstrate the team’s commitment to building a next-generation interoperable network for compute, the start of what could be a new paradigm.

An AI framework for developers

As it stands, PlatON launched Alaya in October 2020, a test solution and commercial sandbox for the future of financial infrastructure. The solution exploits the inter-chain bridges between Alaya and several other chains.

Future activities for the team include a continued focus on advancing their privacy-preserving AI network throughout 2021 and plans to release many associated protocols, as outlined in their official roadmap.
