The Indian Roorkee Institute of Technology (IIT Roorkee) announced today that it is working with the Mehta Family Foundation (MFF) in the United States to establish the Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence on its campus.

The school will offer bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs. It will start its first batch in September of next year. The school will also offer training and certifications in data science and artificial intelligence for professionals.

The school will be housed in a new building on the IIT Roorkee campus developed with support from MFF. AI experts including Ananth Grama, Shankar Subramanium Rajesh Gupta, will help design the program and recruit faculty, among others.

A memorandum of understanding between the two organizations was signed by Ajit K. Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee, and Rahul Mehta, Managing Director, MFF.

K. VijayRaghavan, Senior Scientific Advisor, Government of India (GoI) and Sandeep Verma, Secretary, Scientific and Technical Research Council, GoI were also present at the signing.

VijayRaghavan said: “Artificial intelligence research and training is key to our future. AI technologies are essential for India and will have a significant social and economic impact in the years to come. This international academic collaboration between IIT Roorkee and MFF is a laudable effort to ensure that India continues on its innovation trajectory.

Chaturvedi said it was a “milestone day” in IIT Roorkee’s journey as it was the first time the institute had established a school.

The Bhupat & Jyoti Mehta Family Foundation (MFF), located in Houston, Texas, USA, was established by Nisha, Rahul, Jainesh and his wife Mamta, and Dharmesh and his wife Archana to honor their parents, Bhupat and Jyoti Mehta , from Mumbai. , India.
