New Karnataka Government Engineering Colleges Offer AI and Data Science Courses

The two new public engineering schools that will admit students this academic year will only offer new-age courses.

The state government has launched new engineering colleges: one in Nargund in Gadag and another in Bidar district. They only offer three courses.

According to details provided by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) to Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), these new colleges will offer Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science and Computer Science with an intake of 120.

Considering the growing demand for AI and Data Science, the government has decided to offer only such courses. “Instead of opening all the courses and the places that become free, we have decided to offer the courses that are in demand,” said an official from the technical education department.

The government also recruits teachers who are experts in these subjects. “Artificial intelligence and data science courses are not available in many colleges and this will help attract students to government colleges,” the official added.

VTU Vice Chancellor Prof. Vidyashankar said DH: “Artificial Intelligence is in great demand. In most fields including automotive, mechanics, medicine, Artificial Intelligence is the future. Therefore, we have introduced the same in our new colleges .”
